Now a major TV series on E4. In this pulse-pounding sequel to Kass Morgan's The 100, secrets are revealed, beliefs are challenged, and relationships are tested. And the hundred will struggle to survive the only way they can - together.

It's been 21 days since The 100 landed on Earth. They're the only humans to set foot on the planet in centuries... or so they thought. Facing an unknown enemy, Wells attempts to keep the group together. Clarke strikes out for Mount Weather, in search of other Colonists, while Bellamy is determined to rescue his sister, no matter the cost. And back on the ship, Glass faces an unthinkable choice between the love of her life and life itself

No spoilers for Day 21, but maybe slight spoilers for The 100.

I enjoyed The 100, it was a fun, simple, easy mindless read that I needed, I liked the characters, the plot and world-building was a little wish-washy. However, what I hoped would happen in the next with the plot development, didn't come through in Day 21.

We had the set-up in The 100, with the damage to the ship causing the colony to use a 100 'criminals' put them in a drop-ship and send them to Earth, to see if it's not habitable once again after the radiation bomb, with only two estimated outcomes. They might not survive the trip. They survive the trip and die of radiation on earth. The survivors learned that they're not the only ones on the planet. Now it's day 21, where, if correct by Clarkes experience with her parents 'experiments' with radiation with the unregistered kids, Day 21 is the day they should start showing symptoms if they have radiation poisoning.

While the first in a series usually introduces you to the characters and plot, the second in the series is usually where you get more plot, and while we did have some more plot development in Day 21, it was little. I think, because it's centred and alternated around so many characters, the sub-plot for each of them counts towards the whole plot, but it's slow going. We did get a lot more with Glass and on the ship side of things, but not much with Clarke, Bellamy and Wells on earth, where you'd think would be the most exciting part, wasn't. We did get a hint of what's to come, but not until the end , so I was disappointed with that.
Don't get me wrong, I still loved the characters, and the growth in them, though a few little instances seemed a little implausible when it came to some truths were revealed, and the hot and cold reactions for a certain two characters, seemed to go against the nature of the development and the rooted love they supposedly had. Bellamy, by far, is my favourite, he's the more...instinctive of the bunch, and protective over both Octavia and Clarke, and anyone else can go take a jump. Apart from a little mishap, his development was what I (hoped) and expected. Wells is still my least favourite, I don't know why either, he's just a little...off. And the way he jumps from one to another so fast is a little ridiculous to be honest.

Day 21, plot wise, wasn't as explored as I would've liked and even though it does hint at what's to come, I'm still a little disappointed with it. Still, I'll read the next because I need to know if it does go to where it's hinted.

  1. Ugh I REALLY want to read this review, but am going to have to satisfy myself with the rating since I haven't read 'The 100' yet. I watch the TV show, but I'm not sure how similar the two are...

    1. I've only watched the first 2 episodes (I think) so don't know how similar they are outside of that either, couldn't get into it though, so left it for now and will probably go back to it when I haven't got anything else to read.

  2. Okay, I haven't read The 100 (and probably won't, since Faye pointed out a lot of things I would hate about it), but I watched the show, so all I know is based on the TV series. Bellamy's definitely my favorite as well. Based on the TV show. I hope he and Clarke get together. TT_TT

Sorry you didn't love this as much as you hoped. Awesome review!

    1. I only wanted to watch it because of Bob Morley *cough*, I've been kind of in love with him since Home and Away. But haven't really gotten into it yet. :(
